The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras will make it easier for its public employees to work from home (12/05/2018)

Puerto Lumbreras will be one of the first municipalities in the Region of Murcia to implement this innovative system

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras will launch a pilot telecommuting project aimed at municipal employees, as a preliminary test to the regulation of a new type of non-contact working day.

The weekly session of the participants in the project will be distributed between face-to-face sessions and a maximum of two non-contact days.

The objective of this initiative is to promote the reconciliation of work and family life, while modernizing the operating system of local government and enhancing the use of new information technologies.

The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, explained that "with this measure we intend to promote conciliation, increase the quality of work and improve working conditions, which will result in greater productivity of workers."

The bases of the call, which have already been published, determine the jobs likely to be performed in the telework mode.

Among them are those related to study, analysis, planning, organization, preparation and supervision of projects;

elaboration of regulations;

legal and technical advice;

writing, correction and processing of documents;

management of information and communications systems;

and data processing and programming.

To request participation in this project, workers must have a favorable report from the person in charge of the service or administrative unit to which the applicant is attached.

"With this new modality of service provision, and thanks to new technologies, we will increase autonomy at work, we will adapt the administration to the current reality and will make it easier to conciliate", underlined Mª Ángeles Tunisia.

The duration of the project will be three months, which may be extended for periods of the same duration until, in view of the conclusions drawn from its development, its completion is agreed.

A Telework Assessment and Evaluation Commission will be created, which will be the body in charge of the selection of the personnel that will be part of the project and to perform monitoring and evaluation tasks.

Public employees interested in participating in the pilot project must present a telematic instance in the general electronic register of the City Council, within a period of ten calendar days counted from the day following the publication of the announcement of the call on the City Council's notice board. which was held on May 7.

Tunisia stressed that "this system of work can have important benefits for both staff and citizens On the one hand, the administration can reorganize work processes, obtaining better time management and improving the provision of services. , public employees can enjoy a flexible workday adapted to their personal and family circumstances. "

To conclude, the mayor concluded that "teleworking does not imply working fewer hours, but better managing work time in view of an increase in personal performance, which is directly related to job motivation."
