About 1,000 schoolchildren from Puerto Lumbreras celebrate the International Day of Water (21/03/2019)

Tomorrow the Reina Sofía public park will host a storyteller for all audiences, starting at 17.30

About 1,000 schoolchildren from the four public schools of Puerto Lumbreras will celebrate, as of today, the International Day of Water with dramatized visits and activities focused on the use of this natural resource.

The program, designed specifically for this occasion, includes dramatized visits to the hydraulic infrastructure of the Casa del Cura on 21 and 22 March.

During these two days, the children contemplate the operation of a system of catchment, storage and distribution of water, typical of the traditional agriculture of Puerto Lumbreras.

The visit is guided by unique characters, who represent the ancient farmers of the Casa del Cura.

In addition, the children visit the ethnographic room of agriculture and livestock and know the irrigation system of seasonal crops.

Councilor for Education, Sonia Lopez, stressed that "with this initiative we intend to raise awareness among children about the responsible use of water, as a fundamental and limited resource."

On the other hand, the program has visits to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDAR) to know its operation and excursions to the Cabezo de la Jara natural site.

The 6th grade students of the educational centers will travel to this place considered as a Site of Community Interest (SCI).

The Councilor for Education, Sonia Lopez, stressed that "the natural area, listed as an area of ​​ecological interest, has extensive leisure areas that will allow children to fully enjoy nature, while acquiring new knowledge about resources natural ".

Once there, the students will make routes through the astronomical paths, they will make use of the solar telescope installed in the Astronomical Observatory and will visit the corners of the Interpretation Center of Nature, located next to the Cabezo de la Jara Youth Hostel.

In addition to these activities, the Reina Sofía public park will host a storyteller on the occasion of World Water Day tomorrow, starting at 5.30 p.m.

The program of activities is organized by the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, in collaboration with the Irrigation Community of the municipality, Esamur, Fecoam, Alimer and Sacoje.
