Puerto Lumbreras develops a prevention campaign in the face of high temperatures (07/06/2019)

The Department of Social Policy of the City of Puerto Lumbreras, in collaboration with the municipal tele-assistance service Tunstall Televida, is developing a campaign to prevent high temperatures, especially for the elderly in the municipality, with the aim of avoiding heat stroke and other adverse effects.

The campaign includes actions to sensitize the population about the risks of sun and heat, as well as free voltage points.

The acting mayor of the city, Mª Ángeles Túnez, stressed that "the objective of this initiative is to minimize the risk of high temperatures and explain its harmful effects, especially among the most vulnerable groups such as the elderly or the chronically ill".

Among the awareness actions, the installation of an information table in the weekly market in which leaflets with recommendations and numerous pieces of fruit have been distributed.

Drinking water abundantly, protect yourself from direct exposure to the sun and avoid physical efforts in the hottest hours of the day are some of the main tips that from the telecare service is transferred to the neighbors.

The telecare service is a service aimed at elderly or disabled people, which allows you to call, at the push of a button, to ask for help in case of emergency from your own home, a service for which the need to have a fixed telephone line is no longer essential. at home thanks to GSM technology.

Currently, in Puerto Lumbreras 68 people benefit from this service, 15 of them with complementary technology installed that increases their security with fire / smoke, gas and mobility devices.
