Guided visits to the Cave Houses, a leisure alternative that attracts many visitors every weekend (14/08/2019)

A different and attractive leisure alternative for both the summer season and others is the guided tour of the cave houses, within the Medina Nogalte tourist complex.

An explanatory tour that this summer are being carried out by many Lumbrereans and visitors from other cities, during Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8:00 p.m.

The departure of the visit is made from Casa Taller del Artesano, and the price of it is 3 euros, and free for children up to 10 years.

These cave houses constitute one of the most important troglodyte sets in the peninsular southeast.

It has its origin in modern times, when there is a strong population growth as a result of the cultivation of large areas of the Nogalte field.

It has been inhabited until the last decades of the twentieth century.

Since 1996, several of these caves have been rehabilitated and equipped to show through various interpretive means what life was like in these peculiar constructions, as well as explaining different aspects of the History and the cultural and ethnographic heritage of the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras.

According to the Councilor for Tourism, Toñi Navarro, "the caves allow visitors to know the cultural richness of Puerto Lumbreras, becoming a very complete and entertaining visit, since each of them is dedicated to a different theme."

Crafts in the Artisan Workshop House, heritage values ​​around the Nogalte Castle in the Cave "El Cerro de Nogalte: recovering our history" or the uniqueness and evolution of the human use of coats and caves in the area from prehistory to 50-60 years in the Cave "Life and traditions in cave houses".

The Cave "The water route in Puerto Lumbreras" is dedicated to presenting the importance of water in the municipality.

Visitors can also enjoy other contents in the Cave "El Castillo de Nogalte", where they will discover the history, constructive and functional characteristics of the medieval Islamic fortress, as well as the archaeological research developed and the most representative findings.
