The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has organized theatrical visits to the hydraulic infrastructure of Casa del Cura to commemorate World Water Day, which is celebrated on March 22.

In particular, students from the four public schools, seniors of the Day Center and users of the Center for Persons with Disabilities visit all this week the facilities of the hydraulic infrastructure to know the traditional systems of capture, storage and distribution of water.

This activity has guided tours by unique characters, who represent the old farmers of the Casa del Cura.

In addition, the attendees visit the ethnographic hall of agriculture and livestock and know the irrigation system of seasonal crops.

The hydraulic infrastructure is a scale system that has several elements such as a well that, through a gear, drives the wheel that extracts water from it in some alcántaras.

From this point, it is channeled towards a traditional well of Puerto Lumbreras and, from this well and an aqueduct, is directed towards a traditional mill where the flour was ground and from there towards a traditional laundry and, finally, towards a system Of irrigation through ditches for irrigation of the land.

The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, who also participated in this day, explained that "with the recreation of this infrastructure we aim to bring children and young people to know the traditions and ways of life of their ancestors , At the same time that they learn the operation of traditional systems like a noria, a cistern or a mill ".

It should be noted that this activity is part of the program designed by the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras in collaboration with the Sanitation and Purification Entity of the Region of Murcia (ESAMUR), Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Murcia (FECOAM) and Foods of the Mediterranean Society Cooperative (ALIMER).

The programming of activities will continue tomorrow with the screening of the children's film "Rango", which addresses the problem of water scarcity.

The film will begin at 17.30 in the hall of the Cultural Center, and entry will be free.

On the other hand, on April 1, guided tours are planned for the botanical and water use trail, located in the natural spot Cabezo de la Jara.
