For a few months Puerto Lumbreras has captured the interest of a foreign investment group that is negotiating with individuals to lease land in agricultural and livestock production, with the intention of carrying out the commissioning of a large Photovoltaic Plant that would cover 1000/1200 hectares and would affect both margins of the highway from the zone called Puerto Adentro to the border with the province of Almería, for a production of about 400 million Watts of electricity.

It seems that the intention is that all the owners of the zone accede to the pretensions of this investor group, by good or in case with the threat of the expropriation, for this they would be signing precontracts, with the commitment of the owners to give its land initially for 25 years, subject to an extension of another 25 years.

The problem however is that these lands are linked to the Puerto Lumbreras Irrigation Community, thanks to which Puerto Lumbreras has water concessions from the Desaladora de Águilas, as well as water rights over the Negratín Basin, thanks to a Judgment of the Supreme Court that in its day gave the reason to the Comuneros, so that the change of land use could lead to the loss of the water concessions, which have cost so much effort and time.

For these reasons Víctor Romera states: "That if this project were finally carried out would be the end of a very important part of the economy of Puerto Lumbreras, since it is the area in agricultural production more important and extensive of the municipality, which we must remember bases its economy and economic development in this sector, being an area where at present can be used around 500 direct jobs.

For LEFT UNITED-GREEN of Puerto Lumbreras this is a project with few guarantees, as little or no information about it and where the owners are invited to start on a trip without knowing very well to which destination.

It is curious how this project has already been discarded in other localities, without going further in the neighboring Lorca, where it is also planned its construction in an area very close to Puerto Lumbreras, specifically in the area of ​​La Campana, corresponding to the Diputación de la Escucha.

For these reasons our political formation urges the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras to analyze with the social and economic agents of the municipality, the viability and convenience of this business project, in the location where it is intended to develop and if it conflicts with the development economic situation of the municipality, especially on its consequences on agriculture and the concessions of water that are available for irrigation of our fields.
