The director general of Roads and the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras inspect the works to improve access to Puerto Lumbreras (31/03/2009)

The Highways Agency and the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras have earmarked an investment of EUR 1,482,781 for works.

The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, and the Director of Roads, Jose Guijarro, this morning visited the works to improve access to Puerto Lumbreras through the remodeling of the road section D16, belonging to the so-called Lemon Street .

"The improvement and expansion of our communications infrastructure will increase travel safety, improve transit in the city and provide our business opportunities to promote their competitiveness," said the mayor lumbrerense, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.

The D16 road from Puerto Lumbreras to The Station-The Esparragal involves an investment of 1,482,781 euros to remodel and improve the road.

The refurbishment of the stretch of road owned D16 Lemon Street includes the creation of new landscaped areas and sidewalks, parking and new street lighting.

Also incorporate street furniture such as benches, bins and boxes and install new networks of drinking water and rainwater collection.

On the other hand, these actions to improve access to town include the creation of a cycleway on the D16, from Torre Pacheco Street to the Cemetery.

The aim is to encourage the mobility of citizens through sustainable transport option.

"This access is of great importance to the municipal level, because it joins the center of town with the town of The Station, in the hamlet of Esparragal.

Is expected to finish next June and will soon begin works to remodel other access to the town center, "the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.

Other access improvement

Besides the D16 road, is expected to soon begin work on the D19, another access to the municipality which will be remodeled with the construction of new sidewalks, service road in both directions, implementation of street furniture and landscaping.

These works have a budget of 848,479 euros.

"The creation of green areas and the addition of bike lanes at the entrances to town are a further demonstration of the commitment of the City Council to promote sustainable growth.

These actions are being carried out through more than 153 measures that includes the Action Plan Ecopuerto "said the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.

On the other side is also expected to improve the margins of national highway 340, now Avenida Juan Carlos I, since leaving the highway from the Mediterranean to the industrial estate.

This road links the town with the busy industrial area and walk daily by many residents.

Among the improvements is planned to carry out various activities such as construction of sidewalks, road paving and the installation of street lighting.
