The Ministry of Development and Infrastructure begins the construction of a new roundabout in Puerto Lumbreras that will order traffic and improve road safety of 1.8 million trips recorded annually regional highway RM-D16.
This work will involve a regional investment of 232,000 euros and will be completed in the fall.
The infrastructure will have an external diameter of 36 meters and 20 inside.
The roadway will be formed by a six-meter lane, with a one-meter shoulder.
In the interior of the gazebo there will be a central island paved with a garden parterre.
The work will be completed with the signage, pavement and lighting of it.
The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, and the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, María Ángeles Tunisia, supervised the start of the work that is part of the program of actions to improve road safety in the regional road network.
Patricio Valverde stressed that the RM-D16 highway is the main communication route between the urban core of this municipality and the districts of El Esparragal and Puerto Station, so the substitution of the current intersection with a modern roundabout "will facilitate a adequate visibility and will imply a significant improvement in road safety for users of this regional road ".
The new roundabout will have four branches, which will serve the Animal Disinfection Center and Livestock Market, the urban center of the municipality, a rural road, and the districts of El Esparragal and Puerto Station.
The counselor stressed that the work will mean adequate traffic regulation and positively impact the circulation of heavy vehicles that use the RM-D16 annually, which exceed 115,000.
