Citizens request explanations in Congress for the degradation of the Parador de Puerto Lumbreras (15/09/2018)

Citizens have requested explanations from the Government in the Congress of Deputies for the situation of degradation and complete abandonment that the Parador de Turismo de Puerto Lumbreras is suffering, almost six years after its closure, then classified as temporary.

"In 2014, it was announced, as always, that the 60-room building would be rehabilitated and converted into a center of specialization in nutrition, restoration and promotion of gastronomic companies, for which more than 5 million euros would be invested through European funds, but the only real thing is that garbage accumulates, vandals roam freely around the site and everyone's heritage is degraded by sight, "denounced the national deputy José Luis Martínez.

To his knowledge, Paradores del Estado "has not fulfilled the promise that the building had a new use related to tourism, and the city council has not even complied with the objective of preventing installations from degrading, which will make it impossible to short-term recovery and will make the planned investment more expensive ".

Martínez has verified that the building has the doors and windows torn off, several roofs have sunk and the garbage and the graffiti are the general tonic in the enclosure: "We want to know the current status of the agreement that Paradores signed with the City Council, and above all give a touch of attention to try to stop this deterioration, "said the orange deputy.

The Parador, inaugurated in 1946, was closed in 2013 within the framework of the agreement reached between the unions and the company, which included the dismissal of 350 workers throughout the national network and the temporary closure of 27 establishments.

Opened in 1946 next to the old national highway that connected Murcia with Andalusia, the 60-room building was the lowest category of the national network, with three stars, and had not undergone major renovations, extensions or renovations since 1977 .
