The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras yesterday organized a public ceremony to officially receive the world champion of Muay Thai, Mª Carmen Romero.
The meeting took place at the municipal offices of La Estación-Esparragal and was attended by numerous neighbors and sports fans.
The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, announced that "at the next Municipal Plenary Session I will propose that the Multipurpose Rural Center of the Lumbrerense district of La Estación-Esparragal be named Mª Carmen Romero".
The boxer lumbrerense achieved a few days ago a new title in Bangkok for his record.
Romero was proclaimed champion of the world of muay thai in 54 kilos, imposing to the Peruvian Fiorella.
After being two times champion of the amateur world of kick-boxing, three from Europe and five from Spain, besides winning two full-contact Iberian cups, ten years ago she entered boxing.
In this Olympic sport, she was three times gold medalist in the nationals and was concentrated in the High Performance Center with the Spanish national team.
The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, congratulated Romero "it is a pride that a Lumbreran woman has achieved this victory." She is a great example of overcoming and has taken the name of Puerto Lumbreras, from the Region of Murcia and from Spain to the highest".
