The specialized Care Center for victims of gender violence (CAVI) in Puerto Lumbreras has treated a dozen women so far this year.

The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Túnez, and the general director of Women, Alicia Barquero, visited the facilities today to supervise the operation of the center, which has a budget of more than 96,000 euros.

The Autonomous Community, through the General Directorate for Women and Equal Opportunities of the Family Counseling, reinforced the attention to victims of gender violence with the creation of a Center for Attention to Women Victims of Gender Violence (CAVI) in Puerto Lumbreras.

The municipality of Puerto Lumbreras went from having a Specialized Attention Point for Victims of Gender Violence in Puerto Lumbreras (PAE) to having a Center for Attention to Women Victims of Gender Violence (CAVI) in Puerto Lumbreras with more resources.

In this sense, the number of hours of psychological care has increased and the professional profile of a social worker and a full-time legal advisor has been incorporated.

Tunisia stressed that "the purpose of this free service is to provide accompaniment and advice to women who are or have been victims of abuse." From here, specialized attention is offered so that victims of gender-based violence can successfully face their experiences. Finally, the mayor said that "the fight against gender violence is fundamental to achieve real equality between men and women."

Barquero recalled that "since January 1, the 22 specialized centers for victims of gender violence have their full-time staff, a measure that was launched thanks to the Regional Pact against Gender Violence."

"Actions like this give security to the victims, so it is not surprising that the region is the autonomy where before women who have suffered or suffer abuse mistreat," he added.

During the first four months of the year, 780 women have been assisted in the 22 CAVIs that are part of the Regional Gender Violence Resource Network.
