Ginés Hidalgo Martínez, "Lumbrerense of the year" (27/06/2019)

Ginés Hidalgo Martínez will be named "Lumbrerense of the year 2019" on July 7 in the Institutional Act to mark the 61st anniversary of the independence of Puerto Lumbreras,

The young researcher based in the United States was born in Puerto Lumbreras in 1992, and has become a benchmark in the field of artificial intelligence worldwide and one of the best ambassadors of Puerto Lumbreras.

In 2010, he moved to Cartagena where he began to study the degree in Telecommunications Systems Engineering at the UPCT.

During the following 4 years, he obtained the extraordinary prize of Engineering in Telecommunications Systems of the UPCT, the highest mark of his promotion, and multiple honors, including one in his final degree project.

In 2014, after graduating, he started as a researcher in artificial intelligence at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), the best US university in programming and artificial intelligence along with MIT, Berkeley, and Stanford.

During his first 2 years at CMU, he collaborated and was part of the IntraFace library, a program capable of automatically detecting different points of the face, such as pupils, eyebrows, nose, etc.

In 2016, he began studying the CMU robotics master's degree.

In parallel, he maintained his work as a researcher, where he was the main author of the OpenPose library, the first program in the world capable of detecting points of the body in real time, the first program capable of detecting hand points, and the first capable program to simultaneously detect points of the body, face, hands and feet.

Currently, OpenPose has more than 13,000 "likes" and is used daily by thousands of researchers around the world.

Thanks to his work at CMU, Ginés has been recognized internationally, appearing in the most prestigious magazines in the world, such as TechCrunch, BBC, Wired, Reuters, Spectrum, Fortune, Washington Post, DailyMail, etc.

In addition, it has also appeared in multiple national newspapers, including ABC, La Vanguardia or El Independiente.

Of course, it has also appeared in regional newspapers such as La Verdad and La Opinión de Murcia.

After graduating in May 2019, Ginés was recruited by Epic Games, a video game company that is currently well known thanks to its video game "Fortnite".

According to Ginés, this is the most exciting adventure he has embarked on to date.

Ginés will try to bring his domain in artificial intelligence to the Unreal Engine program, which is the main video game engine in the world.

Some games that have been created with this engine are "Fortnite", some "Mortal Kombat", "Tekken", "Assasin's Creed", "God of War", "Batman", "Dragon Ball", "NBA 2Ks", " Moto GP "," Final Fantasy "," Kingdom Hearts "," Warhammer ", and a long etcetera.
