The municipal group of the Popular Party in the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras will take a motion to urge the Government of the Nation to proceed, as soon as possible, to a study for the electrification of the Águilas-Lorca railway line- Murcia and while facing the transition of this road, proceed to the modernization of the train park by hybrid models.
The commuter train service that covers the Águilas-Lorca-Murcia line is in a third world situation despite being a means of transport that is in great demand due to the economic and environmental advantages it presents.
"They use trains of more than 35 years, uncomfortable, with continuous breakdowns, in poor condition, totally obsolete that must, immediately, be replaced by modern, accessible, comfortable and, above all, faster trains," says Raquel Rodríguez, Councilor of the popular municipal group.
These new trains have to serve to improve the Águilas-Lorca-Murcia connection and reduce travel time.
Currently, it takes 2 hours for the train to cover the route between Águilas and Murcia, which makes it uncompetitive with other means of transport.
The Ministry of Development must listen to the users of this line and give them an effective solution to their demands assuming this action as a priority, since the modernization of these trains is vital to promote and activate the economy of the area.
"We have news of a historic request for rolling stock that has just been activated in RENFE and whose tender is ongoing in which the purchase of hybrid trains is planned," says Councilwoman Raquel Rodriguez.
