In recent years, awareness among the population has increased for respect for animals and animal welfare, so the new times require a greater commitment to the progress involved in the struggle to promote and ensure real animal protection, which guarantees the improvement of the living conditions of the animals and their coexistence with a responsible citizenship.
From the Socialist Municipal Group, we echo the numerous complaints and demands of animal protection and platforms that take care of abandoned animals in our municipality and that transmit to us that they are currently overwhelmed and abandoned by the Lumbrerense town hall.
The high number of abandoned animals, the diversity of situations that arise and their inevitable impact on issues that affect health and safety, require a firm commitment to address the problem by regulating all aspects of municipal competence and promoting effective actions. to improve the coexistence between citizens and animals.
In this sense, the Socialist Party considers that the City Council must work on the elaboration of the municipal animal protection ordinance, taking into account Law 6/2017, of November 8, on the protection and defense of companion animals in the Region of Murcia , committing to a true Zero Sacrifice, should promote the application of the CER method (capture, sterilization and release), actively collaborate with the protectors of animals that act in the municipality and with the managers of feline colonies, recognizing their social and altruistic work to ensure the welfare of animals in your municipality.
