The Socialist party presents a motion for next March for the creation of an Equality Plan in Puerto Lumbreras in the absence of it in the municipality.

In Puerto Lumbreras there is no equality plan since 2008, where the III Equality Plan, which materially has not been reflected in municipal policies, was approved by the municipal plenary.

Therefore, the Socialist Party takes the initiative in this area considering that it is time to carry out a new Equality Plan in collaboration with all social agents involved in equal opportunities, revitalizing the Municipal Equality Council, favoring the creation of actions and specific services to achieve this objective, and consolidating the development of positive action policies in favor of equal opportunities between men and women.

Municipal Equality Plans must define within the scope of their competencies and, in addition, to the regional and state equality plans, the positive action measures to be developed in the municipality in favor of equal opportunities policies between men and women.

However, in the last twelve years of the PP's government, neither the existing Plan has been renewed nor the elaboration of a new one has begun;

practically condemned to extinction even the associations of women who no longer have any kind of subsidy for the development of their actions.

Therefore, it is necessary to prepare a new Municipal Equality Plan.

That is why, according to the general secretary of the PSOE in Puerto Lumbreras, the local government is urged to “draw up a Municipal Plan for Equality between women and men, creating a coordinated work commission from the City Council with the participation of all entities and groups involved in equal opportunity policies in all areas where a member of each municipal group is included, establishes a work calendar and provide sufficient human and economic resources for the elaboration of said plan¨

Local and regional entities are the closest government spheres to the population, and represent the most appropriate levels of intervention to combat the persistence of inequalities and to promote a truly egalitarian society.

In their field of competence and in collaboration with all local agents, they can take concrete actions in favor of the equality of women and men.
