The Regional Government will allocate more than € 117,000 to the Social Services of the Puerto Lumbreras City Council to fight against the impact of Covid-19 (10/04/2020)

The contribution is focused on helping the most economically vulnerable families, the elderly, the disabled or dependent, and on strengthening primary care personnel, among others.

The Ministry of Social Policy will allocate more than 117,000 euros to inject liquidity into families through the social services of the Puerto Lumbreras City Council to alleviate the economic effects of the COVID-19 health crisis, and more than 6 million in total to municipalities of the Region.

The aid, which will preferably be made through bank transfers with the aim of injecting liquidity into families as quickly as possible, can be used to buy food and medicine and pay bills for water and electricity.

They may also be used to provide home help service to vulnerable or isolated people;

to distribute food at home and to support large and single-parent families with economic deprivations.

In addition, municipal corporations may allocate part of this money to hire support professionals and management of basic benefits to cover sick leave or reduce the overload of staff so that, in this way, they can meet the demand of those newly affected by the Covid crisis 19.

The money comes from the contingency fund of 300 million euros for the autonomous communities.

Of these, 9.2 million have corresponded to the Region of Murcia.

Thus, along with the 6.1 million that will go to the municipalities, the rest of the budget has been used to finance the confinement of homeless people, during the State of Alarm;

expand the telecare service to a hundred more dependents since March 16, to enable free telephones to attend to families and elderly residents of the Region.

Also to extend the Basic Insertion Income to some 500 extra people, at the rate of 150,000 euros per month.

In our municipality, home-based proximity services aimed at elderly, disabled or dependent people will be reinforced.

Also, this money will be used to cover personnel and families vulnerable due to economic difficulties.

On the other hand, a special intervention will be carried out in a vulnerable neighborhood, to check the health status of the population, explain the preventive measures recommended by the authorities, as well as meet basic needs.

In addition, the reinforcement of primary care professionals will be carried out, due to the overflow of Social Services in the face of this health crisis.

The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, María Ángeles Tunisia, has thanked the Department of Social Policy of the Region of Murcia "for continuing to firmly support families and those who need it most in these difficult times"
