City Council and Astronomical Association of the Region of Murcia renew the agreement to carry out activities at the Cabezo de la Jara Observatory (21/07/2020)

| This organization receives 7,500 euros to carry out the promotion and dissemination of astronomy in Puerto Lumbreras | The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras and the Astronomical Association of the Region of Murcia have renewed a collaboration agreement for the granting of a grant of 7,500 euros to said association, with the aim of promoting and disseminating astronomy in the municipal facilities of the Observatory Astronomical Cabezo de la Jara, located in an ideal location for the subject and which are also unique in the entire Region of Murcia.

"The facility is certified by the Starlight Star Park for the quality of its night skies, which guarantees perfect visibility on 90% of summer nights.

It is a perfect location for observing the sky, and one of the seven Star Parks of Spain with this certification.Collaboration with the Astronomical Association allows us to enhance the Observatory even more as a tourist attraction as well as to carry out scientific outreach activities such as the Basic Astronomy Course for Beginners, which in each edition exceeds the previous one in affluence, "said the mayor of Puerto Louvers; María Ángeles Tunisia. For its part, the Murcia Astronomical Association also undertakes to carry out guided tours and observations on the last Saturday of each month of the year, as well as every Wednesday and Saturday from July 1 to September 30, and Fridays during the first fortnight in August.

The groups are small and adapted to current regulations in the health situation, and prior reservation is required at the Puerto Lumbreras Tourism Office, at the email oficinadeturismo@puertolumbreras.es and by phone 652902268 from 08:00 to 14:00 hours from Monday to Friday.

It can also be done through the web www.murciaturistica.es in the section "your guided tour". Visits to the Observatory by local schools, the IES Rambla de Nogalte and those associations of the municipality that request it are also contemplated in this agreement.

In the most prominent shower of stars, the Perseids or Tears of San Lorenzo, there will also be a specialized observation, from August 10 to 12. The members of the Astronomical Association will be in charge of communicating and enforcing the regulations in force at all times during the visits as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic: distancing measures, cleaning and disinfection of the telescope, or use of masks, among others .

The City Council will be in charge of placing the signs indicating all the rules to be followed, as well as supplying the material / products necessary for compliance with said regulations.
