Neighbors and tourists will be able to visit the themed cave houses of Puerto Lumbreras on a guided basis starting next Friday (03/08/2020)

| Every Friday in August and September you can enjoy one of the most important troglodyte complexes in the south-east of the peninsula | The Department of Tourism of the Puerto Lumbreras City Council proposes a different and attractive leisure alternative for this summer season: the guided visit to the cave houses, within the Medina Nogalte tourist complex.

An explanatory tour that locals and visitors from other cities will be able to enjoy starting this week every Friday, during the month of August at 8:30 p.m.

and in September at 8:00 p.m.

The departure of the visit is made from Casa Taller del Artesano, and the price is 3 euros, and free for children up to 10 years. "It is a journey through the history of Puerto Lumbreras, in which visitors will be able to discover how our ancestors lived and how the municipality has evolved over time," stressed the Councilor for Tourism; Toņi Navarro. These cave houses constitute one of the most important groups of troglodytes in the southeast of the peninsula.

It has its origin in modern times, when there was a strong demographic growth as a consequence of the cultivation of large areas of the Nogalte field.

It has been inhabited until the last decades of the 20th century.

Since 1996, several of these caves have been rehabilitated and conditioned to show through various interpretive media what life was like in these peculiar constructions in addition to explaining different aspects of the History and cultural and ethnographic heritage of the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras. According to the Councilor for Tourism, Toņi Navarro, "the caves allow visitors to get to know the cultural wealth of Puerto Lumbreras, conforming to a very complete and entertaining visit, since each one is dedicated to a different theme." Given the health situation by COVID-19, various preventive measures will be adopted: the groups for visits will be a maximum of 15 people, the obligation to wear a mask must be met, and the minimum social distance established by the Law of 1.5 meters.

In addition, the tour will have hydroalcoholic gel and the brochures will be in electronic reading format with a "QR" code for consultation by mobile phone.
