The PSOE demands that the Municipal School Council be convened to work for a safe return to the classrooms (25/08/2020)

The socialist group considers that, given the increase in infections in the Guadalentín region, it is urgent to establish agreed guidelines for the start of the school year. Last spring, the Murcia Region, and even more Puerto Lumbreras, were fortunate that the confinement arrived before the virus spread, being one of the areas of Spain with the lowest incidence of pandemics.

Instead, now the scene is very different.

Lorca triples the regional average (and exceeds the national) in infections per inhabitant.

And Puerto Lumbreras has gone from 5 infected this spring to having 39 new confirmed cases in the last month. For these reasons, the general secretary of the PSOE of Puerto Lumbreras, María Rosa García, believes that it is urgent "a meeting of all the parties involved in education to study the situation and seek a consensus that provides educational centers with common guidelines for action to minimize the risk of contagion in schools, including school management teams, representatives of the AMPAs, a representative of the FAMPA, trade unions, parents' representatives in school councils, technicians from the Ministry of Education, and any interested party belonging to the educational community deemed appropriate¨. The socialist group considers that it is inadmissible that the improvisation and the abandonment of functions of the Regional Government mark the beginning of the school year in this health emergency situation.

In this regard, in recent days we have been able to see how the socialist town councils of the Region have taken the initiative to seek effective solutions, setting an example and making available to the Ministry of Education numerous spaces to be able to unfold the classrooms and lower the ratio, however, no commitment on the part of the Puerto Lumbreras City Council, which maintains a passive and conformism attitude to the disastrous management of the Regional Government. According to María Rosa García: ¨In view of this unacceptable situation, we consider that the Government Team of the Puerto Lumbreras City Council should be involved and act as quickly as possible to specify what type of aid they can provide to help the beginning of the course be carried out with the greatest possible Possible security (cleaning and disinfection plans, training and advice to janitors, signage, availability of municipal spaces to facilitate conciliation, etc.).

We demand a firm commitment so that the Council of Education of the City Council specifies what resources and what measures it can offer to support, within its powers, a safe start of the school year¨. He adds "It seems to us inadmissible that, while the Health Minister of the Region of Murcia, Manuel Villegas, has announced the limitation of social gatherings to 6 people, both inside and outside, the Minister of Education, Esperanza Moreno, Do not consider the support shown by the municipalities to get the physical spaces that, according to their statements, they needed to be able to hire more teachers.

It has thus become clear that all are excuses for not investing the money in hiring 1,500 teachers proposed by the Socialist Party of the Region of Murcia. For this reason and, taking into account that the Ministry of Education does not intend to negotiate its plan to return to the classroom despite the dust that has arisen in the educational community, we demand a quick, responsible and appropriate response on the part of of the Government Team of the Puerto Lumbreras City Council and we are at your disposal to work in this regard.
