The City Council reaffirms its support for the Lumbrerense Association of Alzheimer's Patients, on World Disease Day (21/09/2020)

The local council constantly collaborates with ALDEA in all the projects carried out by the association, in addition to granting an annual subsidy of more than 10,000 euros, with which support activities for Alzheimer's patients are reinforced in the Lumbrerense town The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras; María Ángeles Túnez, the spokesperson for the Government team; Raquel Rodríguez, and the Councilor for Health; Juan Rubén Burrueco, have visited the ALDEA headquarters this morning; the Lumbrerense Association of Alzheimer's Patients, to convey to those responsible once again the support of the City Council for the important work they do, within the framework of the celebration of World Alzheimer's Day, which is celebrated today. The current health situation has caused Alzheimer's patients to have suffered the worst consequences of confinement, both as a population at risk from COVID-19 and the greater severity of the virus in those infected, as well as the circumstance of being isolated from their environment and isolated of their routines, which has contributed to a deterioration of their disease. Around 800,000 people in Spain suffer from Alzheimer's disease, a neurological pathology that is the leading cause of disability and is the most common type of neurodegenerative dementia: 5% of 65-year-olds suffer from it and in those over 90 years of age the percentage increases to 40%. "Alzheimer's patients are a population group that is suffering the pandemic in an especially serious way.

In addition to the risk factors that worsen the prognosis of those affected by the infection, loneliness, lack of communication and socialization, which already they aggravate cognitive deterioration and dementia, and the loss of contact with loved ones by not being able to be visited in residences or hospitals, has meant an extra burden of suffering, "said the mayor; María Ángeles Tunisia. The Puerto Lumbreras City Council constantly collaborates with ALDEA in all the projects carried out by the association, in addition to granting an annual subsidy of more than 10,000 euros, with which the activities to support Alzheimer's patients in the Lumbrerense town are reinforced. Thanks to this support from the council, the association will soon be able to reopen the doors of its center located on Calle Doctor Jiménez Díaz, with all the security measures marked, to continue offering the care they deserve to the sick.

For this purpose they also count on the solidarity of the neighbors, who have collaborated with the association through the acquisition of masks made by ALDEA.
