The motion defended by the socialist group to equip the classrooms with HEPA filters, among other proposals, is approved, despite the vote against the popular party. The municipal socialist group has been the only group that has fully raised concerns about the beginning, and subsequent development, of the school year.
Up to three motions were debated on this issue at the initiative of the councilors of PSOE Puerto Lumbreras. The lack of initiative and capacity of the government team has meant that it was not even known by the citizens if the festivities would be suspended or not until last September 19 when they would begin with their proclamation on September 30.
This lack of foresight and will on the part of the popular group has prevented more measures for the safety of the classrooms from being provided and agreed upon with a budget that will not be spent on celebrations. For this reason, the socialist group presented a motion to request that, if the festivities are suspended, part of the budget line be used to carry out initiatives to avoid contagion in schools and institutes and that these measures be developed with the involvement of the main representatives of the educational community and representatives of all political groups.
Motion that has been approved with the votes in favor of PSOE, the non-attached councilor and VOX.The socialist spokesperson, María Rosa García, regrets that ¨ the education and safety of the children of our schools has not been a priority for this government team and that it has been able to vote against allocating economic resources from this party of celebrations to provide our classrooms with more security measures.
In addition, it shows that ¨ the installation of HEPA filters or a similar system will be necessary in the winter months, since keeping windows and doors fully open throughout the morning in the winter months, as the only measure, will be very difficult to apply.
¨Among the agreements of the same, the study of initiatives that have been carried out in other municipalities is approved, such as installation of awnings to take advantage of available spaces in the open air, provision of individual protection screens, installation of air purifiers with HEPA filters that eliminate bacteria and viruses reducing the probability of spread, etc.
