The City Council carries out several drug addiction prevention projects aimed at young people and parents (18/11/2020)

| The Ministry of Health subsidizes these initiatives that include training and leisure activities | The Regional Government's Health Department subsidizes several drug addiction prevention projects, aimed at young people, adolescents, fathers and mothers of Puerto Lumbreras, and which organizes Social Services of the municipality in collaboration with the Department of Education, Youth and Tourism. One of these projects is called ARGOS, and it works with secondary school students from IES Rambla de Nogalte in the classroom on the problem of drugs, especially alcohol.

Due to the circumstances imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the usual visit of each year by students to the Health Center, where their professionals report the risks associated with drugs from a health point of view, will not be possible. The second project is "prevent from small", and it is an online course for parents, which is carried out through a platform of the Ministry (e-drogas.es).

The Puerto Lumbreras City Council will promote and publicize this activity among parents, who can register for free through the web address www.e-drogas.es/cursoargosfamilias The third project is for alternative leisure, and consists of two free activities, which will take place next Saturday, November 21 and 28, in collaboration with the Cultural Association "Heritage and Culture of Puerto Lumbreras".

The first of these offers young people a low difficulty hiking route and approximately 5 km, making various stops where a volunteer from the association will explain stories about the city.

On the 28th there will be a guided visit by professional astronomers to the Cabezo de la Jara Observatory, where they will obtain information about the solar system and discover the different celestial objects. Those interested in these activities can register by sending a WhatsApp message to the telephone number 607 118 862 indicating name, surname and time when you want to visit. "It is necessary to provide an alternative of leisure and free time to young people so that they can occupy their time in activities related to healthy habits and in which attitudes such as coexistence and respect are promoted.

Likewise, we consider it essential to transmit training to parents adequate prevention of alcohol and drugs so that they know how to keep their children away from the problems related to these, as well as specific actions in cases of frequent consumption of alcoholic beverages, which entails risks both for young people and for the whole society, especially in these moments so worrying by the situation of the COVID 19 ", indicates the mayor; María Ángeles Tunisia.
