[The Puerto Lumbreras City Council continues to distribute food to the most vulnerable families in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic (18/01/2021)

| The Lumbreras city council continues to attend to the growing demand and coverage of basic services since the beginning of the pandemic as food, hygiene, electricity or water for the most needy | The Municipal Emergency Service-Civil Protection in coordination with the Social Services of Puerto Lumbreras has continued this morning with the distribution of food to vulnerable families in the municipality, within the end of the second of the three phases that make up this Food Bank plan in the face of the economic consequences of COVID-19. In this way, non-perishable products, dairy products, preserves, oil, rice or pasta, among others, are distributed to give a break to the neediest families in the town. The Social Services of the City Council also serve people, families and groups in basic needs of food, hygiene and clothing, help for supplies of electricity, water, butane and rent, as well as any other situation ½n that may occur with a view to the reestablishment of basic services. "The pandemic has notably increased demand, and this year is expected to continue to rise as the health situation and its economic and social consequences do not subside. Social Services is responding to all requests in an agile and efficient way, so far it has had the collaboration of the regional government, and on the other hand with the help of the Extraordinary Social Fund COVID-19 of the central Government with which it is expected to cover until the end of this month of January, but we have a lot of uncertainty, since the national budgets for 2021 do not reflect any type of extraordinary aid to continue to face the increase in demand and provide, therefore, this basic attention to the population that needs it. Therefore, the entire burden of the situation of these Lumbrerenses families falls on the City Council, which is in charge of meeting all these needs with its own funds and resources. In addition, the delay in the resolution of unemployment benefits and the Minimum Living Income means that the number of people who require the help of Social Services continues to increase every day ", says the Mayor; Mara ngeles Tnez.
