[The Lumbrerenses socialists present a motion to guarantee access to culture for children with learning difficulties (19/01/2021)

| The PSOE requests that the bibliographic fund of the municipal library be increased with easy-to-read books and that workshops and storytelling are held for minors with disabilities | Universal accessibility is, without a doubt, an inspiring principle in the actions of the public powers, to guarantee people with disabilities the free and effective exercise of all their rights.

One of the aspects of this principle is access to culture, reading being one of the most important tools as a means of enrichment and individual development.

However, the use and enjoyment of books can be unfeasible or, at least, very difficult for those people who suffer from intellectual limitations of different types and intensity.

To correct this problem, various solutions have been proposed, such as reading so-called easy-to-read books, which are those that, due to their special intrinsic characteristics, allow a better understanding of their content through the use of texts.

structured to achieve this end, using clear and simple language, specially adapted for people with intellectual disabilities as well as, in general, for those others who suffer some kind of reading difficulty.

People who may benefit from these readings include those with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), ASD (autism), Asperger syndrome, Down syndrome, or Down syndrome.

of Tourette and those with more or less intense learning problems, such as aphasia or dyslexia, with an especially positive impact on childhood, as this is a vital stage in which intellectual stimulation through reading is so effective as transcendent.

Lumbrerenses socialists consider that a comprehensive response to the aforementioned difficulties should require that not only books, but also other texts and documents (such as forms addressed to public administrations, web pages, documents of legal persons, etc.) had their correlative version in easy reading.

However, this type of reading, which is more inclusive and accessible to all, is a first and transcendent step that the public powers and, of course, the municipal sphere, as an entity closest to the citizen, should ¿½an assume.

According to Mara Rosa Garca: "We present a motion to request that the offer of easy-to-read books be increased, as well as their dissemination and knowledge, so that their use can be expanded , rent and enjoy this type of reading among families.

The cost of these books is similar to any other, so that the cost of their acquisition would be fully affordable.

In addition to the above, we propose that increase the number of workshops (such as storytelling, for example) for people with intellectual disabilities and improve the communication channels of the library for the adequate dissemination of the bibliographic collection and the cultural activities carried out " .
