[The Popular Party of Puerto Lumbreras will take an urgent motion for the Government of Spain to adopt measures to lower the price of electricity (23/01/2021)

The municipal group of the Popular Party in the Puerto Lumbreras City Council will take an urgent motion for debate and approval, urging the Government of Spain to adopt measures that lower the price of the electricity bill, which has marked historical highs in the midst of the most extreme wave of snow and cold in decades remembered, and to avoid further weighing down the personal and family economy of Spaniards, already especially damaged by the effects of the pandemic.

"The Government of Spain continues to lie once again to all citizens and abandon them when they need help the most.

With thousands of families in ERTE and ERES, with millions of people without jobs or resources, and with many others waiting for help that never arrive like the Minimum Vital Income, this huge rise in electricity continues to harm and especially compromise the most vulnerable people and families and small businesses and the self-employed who will see their energy expenditure increase.

The PSOE is once again shielding itself in Europe to refuse to lower the VAT applied to electricity when we are among the top 10 countries in the European Union that apply the highest VAT, "said councilor Raquel Rodríguez.

From the popular municipal group the Government of the Nation is requested to reduce the tax rate of the Tax on the Value of Electric Power Production from 7% to 0%, modifying Article 8 of Law 15/2012 on measures taxes for energy sustainability, as included in the Proposal of Law presented by the Popular Party on September 18, 2018.

In addition, it is requested to modify Law 24/2013 of the Electricity Sector so that certain regulatory costs that are transferred to the electricity bill and the debt of the electricity system are fully financed from the General State Budgets, as proposed in the Proposal of Law presented by the Popular Party on January 19.

"When the Popular Party governed, Sánchez did not hesitate to charge the central government for the rise in the electricity bill.

Now, being in charge of the Executive, he is silent before the rise of up to 30% of this bill so far 2021 and in the midst of the cold wave.

Faced with the harsh situation we are going through, it is time for the PSOE Government and its partner Podemos to put cynicism aside, assume their responsibility to all Spaniards and demonstrate with actions their social commitment of which they boast so much and put little into practice, "says Rodríguez.
