The City Council put in place measures to deal with heat stroke in the elderly through the Telecare Service (16/06/2010)

The municipality and the company have enabled Sergesa Televida Telecare special service to prevent and address the effects that can result from extreme temperatures during the summer.

Among the actions include a referral service, advance weather information, as well as individual people most at risk.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Social Policy, in collaboration with the company Sergesa Televisa, has launched a special service to meet the heat stroke in the elderly during the summer months through the Telecare Service .

The plan aims to establish performance measures from the municipal Teleassistance to prevent, minimize and deal with effects that can cause extreme temperatures during the summer months in the service users.

"Specifically, the measures we have put in place apply to the 145 service users in Puerto Lumbreras Telecare, but in a more special to those most vulnerable because of age, dependency, isolation and associated chronic diseases "notes the Councillor for Social Policy, M ª Angeles Tunisia.

Preventive measures of performance of the Telecare Service to high temperatures, include recommendations to avoid or reduce the impact of heat on health.

Furthermore, the Telecare Central transmits information in advance of the expected temperature indicating whether there is some level of risk in each area, and mobility detectors are installed on users most at risk.

"For the implementation of these measures, we have classified all service users of telecare by levels of risk from the effects of extreme temperatures," said Tunis.

In this sense, the most vulnerable people over 80 who live alone, are subject to a protocol for detection of symptoms against temperature extremes and first aid intervention of the Central staff.

In addition, it will strengthen monitoring, and will be monitored for all people at risk have key contact in the municipality.

In Puerto Lumbreras are 145 users Telecare Service, and after conducting a situation analysis of each of them has concluded that a total of 67 people are risk to the extreme summer temperatures.
