Puerto Lumbreras hosts the XI Flamenco Festival with a performance by singer Curro Piñana (25/06/2010)

The Flamenco Festival is held on Saturday June 26 and will feature special performances by the singer Curro Piñana accompanied by guitar and Marcos Leon Manuel Romera.

The Festival will also feature the poetic interpretation of the play "Blood Wedding" danced by the Flemish Association Ria Pita.

Coinciding with the celebration of the festival, the Councillor for Culture and Celebrations, Isabel García, and the president of the Association of Ballet Flamenco Ria Pita, M ª Carmen Martínez, have signed the cooperation agreement to promote cultural events in the municipality.

The town of Puerto Lumbreras host tomorrow Saturday 26th June from 22.30 the eleventh edition of the Flamenco Festival.

Councillor for Culture and Celebrations, Isabel García, along with the president of the Association of Flamenco Dance Ria Pita, M ª Carmen Martínez, presented the Flamenco Festival 2010, which this year includes performance by the singer Curro Piñana.

"The Festival Flamenco de Puerto Lumbreras is gaining importance every year, and has already become a key event for all lovers of dance and flamenco singing. This year the festival will feature a special performance by the singer Curro Piñana, and representation danced poetry of the play "Blood Wedding, 'notes the Councillor for Education, Culture and Celebrations, Isabel García.

In her performance, the singer Curro Piñana Cartagena, will be accompanied by guitar and Marcos Leon Manuel Romera.

The president of the association and director of performance, M ª Carmen Martínez, stressed that "is a poetic version written by the poet lumbrerense Carmen Martinez, to be recited by local artist Mark Salvador Romero."

In addition, M ª Carmen Martínez added that "at this year's festival, which is free, we have increased the number of artists with more than 50 members of the flamenco ballet."

Blood Wedding is a tragedy in verse, the writer Federico García Lorca in 1931.

It is a poetic and theatrical production focuses on the analysis of a tragic sense, from life and death.

On behalf of the Association Flameca Ria Pita, the work will be 13 dances flamenco, from bulerías, bolts, or joy.

Collaboration between City Hall and Flemish Association

Finally, the Councillor for Education, Culture and Celebrations, Isabel García, and the president of the Association of Dance Ria Pita, have signed a collaboration agreement whereby the City provides a subsidy of 9,000 euros to the Association of Dance Ria Pita of Puerto Lumbreras in the organization and conduct of proceedings in the Flamenco Festival and other cultural initiatives promoted by the municipality during the year, such as the Feast of the Immaculate in the Esparragal, or the Child Flamenco Festival.

In this sense, the Councillor for Education, Culture and Celebrations, Isabel García, concluded by explaining that "the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras supports and encourages the activities of the Association Ria Pita, an entity born with the aim of promoting the culture of flamenco dancing through educational activities and cultural performances that take on a greater level year after year. "
