Rain of Stars in the natural setting Cabezo de la Jara on Wednesday August 10 (06/08/2016)

Members of the Astronomical Association of the Region of Murcia give talks on astronomy in which attendees will explain this astral phenomenon.

The Department of Tourism and Culture, in collaboration with the Astronomical Association of the Region of Murcia has organized a special day with different activities to contemplate 'Tears of San Lorenzo', or 'Starfall' which will take place in the natural setting Cabezo de la Jara on Wednesday 10 August.

Specifically, the day will begin at 22.00 with a presentation and projection of Perseids, by members of the Astronomical Association of the Region of Murcia to explain this astral phenomenon.

The day will continue with the observation of Saturn and the Moon from telescopes on the esplanade of the Youth Hostel and from 23.00h you can observe the Perseids open.

Councillor for Tourism and Culture, Maria Victoria Jerez, stressed that "it is an alternative different entertainment for summer nights addressed to all public and for families to enjoy while you can learn basics of astronomy."

He has continued explaining that "each year the number of participants in this activity and has become a must for many lumbrerenses and amateur astronomers who come from different parts of the region."

In addition, the day includes a visit to the facilities of the new Astronomical Observatory Cabezo de la Jara that has an automated dome diameter of 310 cm equipped with a telescope MEADE 355 mm and 3556 mm opening.

Similarly, this facility houses a high-quality solar telescope to expand the use of facilities with daily activities, and an audiovisual room equipped for lectures, conferences and courses.

This free day is part of the summer program 'Meet the stars' launched by the Department of tourism and culture, through which every Wednesday and Saturday from June to September astronomical observations are made.
