More than 800 people have contemplated the stars this summer at the Astronomical Observatory Cabezo de la Jara (09/09/2016)

869 people have visited the Astronomical Observatory Cabezo de la Jara in Puerto Lumbreras, which is configured as one of the largest and less light pollution in the Region of Murcia.

The Astronomical Association of Murcia has conducted tours every Wednesday and Saturday from June 15 and will continue until Sept. 15 visits.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Tourism and Culture has launched a program of astronomical observations in the new Observatory during the summer months.

Specifically, in the months of June, July and August 869 people visited the Astronomical Observatory Cabezo de la Jara, which is configured as one of the largest and less light pollution in the Region of Murcia.

Thus, the Astronomical Association of Murcia has conducted guided tours every Wednesday and Saturday from June 15 and will continue until 15 September.

Members of the group have shown the facilities of the Observatory attendees and have conducted talks introduction to astronomy in the audiovisual room.

In addition, during the visit they have been made telescopic observations and opencast conducted by astronomers.

The Astronomical Observatory has been recently renovated and expanded.

It has built a new audiovisual divulgativa room with an area of ​​95 square meters intended for various activities, a lobby area with over 100 square meters, a new utility room and storage area as well as new changing rooms adapted in a space of 27 m, approximately.

The expansion and improvement project also included the addition of new furniture and supplies.

Similarly, the telescope was renewed for another more powerful and incorporated as a novelty, a solar telescope to expand the use of the observatory to practice all day.

Councillor for Tourism and Culture, Maria Victoria Jerez, explained that "from this observatory, visitors can see the cosmos through a modern and powerful telescope. The quality of night skies, away from the city, its clean air and turbulence guarantees perfect visibility in 90% of the summer nights. "
