Lumbrerense Martin Lopez Meijide has got an honorable mention in sustainability with their project "comprehensive study of pipe-contracaño system. Harnessing and environmental sustainability of capturing phreatic" in the prestigious competition of scientific publication "Science in Action" held the last weekend in Algeciras.
The work presented by Martin Lopez is based on the model system of water use Caño-Contracaño characteristic in the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras.
In short, his work addresses the groundwater collection systems by filtering galleries which are useful in semi-desert areas.
The Science in Action Programme is an initiative of the Higher Council for Scientific Research, the Lilly Foundation, the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, the Royal Spanish Physical Society, the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry, the Spanish Society of Astronomy, the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Geological Society of Spain and the National University of Distance Education.
This program seeks to bring science and technology to the general public in a dynamic, easy and pleasant way.
The purpose of this meeting, the seventeenth edition was held in Algeciras (Cádiz), it is to present science in a motivating way for young people and the general public.
Science in Action is aimed at students, teachers, researchers and popularizers of the scientific community, in all its disciplines.
This edition has included international proposals Portugal, Mexico, Andorra, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Venezuela, Morocco, Germany and France and have been selected in a first phase distance 159 projects out of 437 applications.
'Science in Action' supports innovative ideas that make the most attractive science for citizenship and thus increase their scientific and commitment culture to show the importance of science to the progress of society and the welfare of citizens, among other objectives .
