Puerto Lumbreras launches a campaign of prevention and treatment against 'procesionaria' and 'tomicus' in the natural environment Cabezo de la Jara (10/02/2017)

Treatment has already begun in some of the affected pines of the natural spot Cabezo de la Jara with the aim of avoiding the proliferation of the processionaria and the tomicus.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Sustainable Development, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Pedanias, has launched a campaign of prevention and treatment against the pests of 'procesionaria' and 'tomicus', which affect The pinares of the municipality located mainly in the natural place Cabezo de la Jara.

First, there have been actions to monitor the possible affected areas of Cabezo de la Jara to determine the necessary prevention and treatment measures.

Thus, technicians from the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment, in collaboration with the Rural Environment Unit of the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, have visited different areas of the area such as Los Pañeros, the Yellow House, Las Culebras or Las Lomas del wind.

Phytosanitary treatment has already begun in some of the affected pines of the natural site Cabezo de la Jara, with the aim of avoiding the proliferation of the processionaria, a caterpillar that can cause damage to trees and allergic problems in humans.

During the next few weeks, these pests will continue to be fought in affected locations using spray guns with the appropriate active ingredients.

On the other hand, phytosanitary treatments will also be carried out to stop the plague of 'tomicus', the beetle borer that attacks trees weakened by drought.

In this sense, work is also being carried out to combat this pest by cutting and removing dead trees to avoid contagion with healthy trees.

Finally, it should be noted that these actions are carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment of the Autonomous Community.

In addition, from the City of Puerto Lumbreras, treatments are carried out periodically in the different parks, gardens and green areas of the town with the aim of preventing and preventing any type of plague.
