"Due to the large number of people who play sports in the municipality we have considered it convenient to equip sports centers with defibrillators to increase the safety of citizens."
The Department of Sports of the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, in collaboration with the Federation of Soccer of the Region of Murcia (FFRM), has installed defibrillator cabinets and equipment in all sports facilities in the town.
The purpose of this initiative is to give a quick response to possible cardiovascular accidents that could happen.
To this end, this weekend, more than twenty people have been trained in this subject whose goal is to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a first cardiac arrest care, until the arrival of specialized teams.
The training has been aimed at sports technicians, representatives of sports associations and members of Civil Protection.
The course has included a theoretical part and a practical part on basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and external semiautomatic defibrillation.
Within basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the practical part has had basic life support maneuvers without equipment (mouth-to-mouth ventilation and cardiac massage), basic life support maneuvers instrumentalized with mask and airway obstruction.
On the other hand, the practice with external semiautomatic defibrillation has included a two-hour simulation with different scenarios.
At the end of this training, students are able to identify the presence of a cardiorespiratory arrest, apply basic CPR techniques and the use of masks for artificial ventilation.
In addition, they also know the basics of an external defibrillator (DESA) in order to be able to use it quickly, perform proper maintenance and know the essential data for the recording and control of a cardiac arrest.
It should be noted that the defibrillators are already installed in the Municipal Sports Center, Municipal Sports Center, summer pools, Sports Pavilion of the San Javier, La Estación-Esparragal Sports Center and Municipal Soccer Field.
Councilor for Sports, Juan Rubén Burrueco, explained that "all our municipal sports centers have a user-friendly tool that saves lives in case of cardiorespiratory arrest."
In addition, Burrueco added that "because of the large number of people who perform sports in these facilities, we have considered it very convenient to equip centers with defibrillators to increase the safety of citizens."
