The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has initiated a process of consultation and citizen participation in the municipality to know the opinions and proposals of the lumbrerenses in the matter of works, infrastructures and cultural activities.

The process has several phases of participation.

First, several meetings are held with associations and local groups to analyze the needs of the municipality and to know their opinions.

Subsequently, a participatory process open to society as a whole, in which citizens will be able to decide which projects the City Council should implement.

The lumbrerenses will be able to vote in telematic way and also through ballot boxes, that will be installed in different places of the municipality.

The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, held yesterday the first working meeting with the local business associations (Aseplu, Amel and Chamber of Commerce) to know their concerns.

The residents of Puerto Lumbreras will be able to propose and decide the destination of more than 140,000 euros of the municipal budgets for the year 2017. Specifically, 30,000 euros will be used for cultural activities and more than 110,000 euros in works so that the citizens are the ones who choose What projects or actions will be carried out in these matters in the municipality

The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Tunis, stressed that "we take a great step in the area of ​​transparency and participation in launching the first participatory budgets of the history of the municipality."

In addition, Tunisia has indicated that "next year we will expand this game so that the citizens have more and more weight in the decisions that are taken in our locality".

It should be noted that this initiative is part of the Plan for Transparency and Citizen Participation, launched by the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras.

To conclude, the Mayor has concluded that "with this initiative we move towards a more participatory democracy model and improve the quality of municipal management."
