Uerto Lumbreras celebrates this weekend a new edition of Equine Cattle Fair, which has more than 450 specimens in an area above 20,000 square meters.
The fair has opened its doors this morning at 08.00 hours and will remain open uninterrupted until 20.00.
Tomorrow, Sunday, April 30, will also be open to the public from 08.00 to 20.00 hours.
The Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock, Water and Pedanias, who attended the inauguration, explained that "with this Equine Cattle Fair, traditionally known as 'the big fair', Puerto Lumbreras becomes one of the first municipalities to open The Spanish fairs, being also one of the last to close them with the fair that is celebrated in the month of December.
The Fair of Equine Cattle of Puerto Lumbreras is one of the oldest contests of the country that gathers farmers of different points of the region and bordering provinces to buy and sell asal, mular and caballar cattle.
During the Fair, hundreds of people of all ages visit the exhibition of animals of these races.
In addition, attendees can also see exhibitions of livestock material such as saddles or esparto works and other utensils related to the horse world.
Elimination of fees
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has modified the tax ordinance regulating the rate for the provision of services in the Livestock Market.
Specifically, the amendment includes the elimination of some fees that had to previously pay the livestock farmers as the entrance of vehicles of transport of animals.
Thus, cattle breeders attending the Equine Livestock Fair do not have to pay for the access of live animal transport vehicles, which ranged from € 3.00 / day for vehicles less than 1,000kgs and 5 , € 00 / day of vehicles of 3,500kgs or more.
In addition, farmers no longer have to pay for the entrance of equine cattle to the fair that until now was € 1.00 per animal.
Finally, it should be noted that the artisans and traders installed in the Fair have also benefited from the elimination of the fee for exposure of livestock material in the internal enclosure of the Comarcal Market of Livestock.
