The City Council launches an information campaign to prevent heat stroke in the summer months (16/06/2017)

A diptych has been distributed offering recommendations to avoid heat stroke.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Social Policy and in collaboration with the tele-assistance company Televida, has launched an information campaign to raise awareness among the population, especially the elderly, of the risks of high temperatures .

In this sense, a diptych has been distributed that offers recommendations to prevent heat stroke in people at greater risk.

In addition, a stand has been installed in which fruit and water have been distributed to combat the heat.

Likewise, the information campaign also includes a talk on Tuesday, June 20, at 11:00 am, at the Senior Citizens Day Center.

The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, stressed that "the main objective of this campaign is to prevent and minimize the effects that can cause extreme temperatures during the summer months in the elderly."

Among the advice provided by this information campaign is the importance of hydrating with water or juice, putting on sun protection adapted to the area of ​​the body and age, as well as consuming lots of fruit.

In addition, the campaign provides tips for the home such as closing windows and curtains of facades exposed to the sun during the day, showering frequently or staying in the coolest places of home.

As for the street, it is recommended not to leave in hours of extreme heat.

Mª Ángeles Tunisia has stressed that "with this initiative we want to inform and raise awareness of the dangers of high temperatures so that they take the sun responsibly, protect their skin with sun cream medium-high, hydrate frequently and use elements To protect themselves like glasses and caps. "

Regarding physical activity, the campaign recommends avoiding activities abroad during the central hours of the day.

If you exercise, do it first thing or at dusk and, above all, refresh and wear appropriate clothing.

The Service of Tele-assistance of the City of Puerto Lumbreras has been active, from June 1 to September, the protocol of action against extreme temperatures.
