The City of Puerto Lumbreras is putting in place various actions of adequacy, repair and maintenance in all public schools in the municipality.
"As every summer, we have taken advantage of the school holidays to carry out improvement actions in all public schools to update the classrooms before the start of the new school year 2017/2018," explained this morning. Mayor at a press conference.
"This year we have increased the investment in works to continue maintaining and improving the facilities of public centers. These actions, with an amount in excess of 40,000 euros, will benefit students and teachers, while favoring economic activity, as professionals Of the sector intervene in these tasks ".
In this way, some of these actions have already been initiated, among which stand out works of masonry, floors, painting, carpentry, plumbing, gardening, cleaning and electricity.
The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, accompanied by the Councilor for Education, Sonia López, has supervised the tasks being carried out in the different centers.
Some of the actions that have already begun in the CEIP Asunción Jordán have been the replacement of the gym floor or the increase of electrical power.
Similarly, gardening, improvements in toilets, disinfection tasks and maintenance of the center will be developed.
At a general level, improvement actions are being carried out in all the educational centers, such as the revision of the painting, the revision of the electrical installations and networks of sanitation, the cleaning of the installations, disinfection, disinsection, repair of defects, replacement of doors And windows, adaptation of toilets, pruning and clearing of landscaped areas, waxing of floors and maintenance of patios.
There will also be repairs of metal locks, wood and fencing.
In addition, ramps have been created to remove architectural barriers, to facilitate access and mobility of persons with disabilities.
Mª Ángeles Tunisia said that "these works planned for the month of August come to improve the working conditions of students and teachers, which has a direct impact on improving the education and training of our young people."
It should be noted that one of the most important works that will be carried out will be the refurbishment of the courtyard of the school Juan Antonio López Alcaraz.
Specifically, the works will start next week and will mainly consist of the execution of a storm collector, as well as the execution of a concrete paving that will replace the existing gravel, favoring the correct evacuation of rainwater.
Tunisia has stated that "with the completion of this work we will solve one of the concerns of the center, ending the problem of drainage that generated puddles on days of heavy rains."
The Mayor said that "throughout the year we maintain direct contact with those responsible for schools to meet their demands, but it is in summer, taking advantage of the fact that the classrooms are empty, when we intensify the work of improvement with the aim that schools Are in perfect condition at the beginning of the new course ".
