The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, and the director general of Agricultural Funds and Rural Development, Carmen Sandoval, visited this morning the works that are being carried out on the rural roads of the municipality, which will be completed in the coming weeks.
The municipality of Puerto Lumbreras will have the rural roads of Los Guevaras and Higueral Alto completely restored in the coming months thanks to the restoration works being carried out by the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, through the Road Plan Rural areas of the Region of Murcia for the period 2014-2020, which are carried out through direct Community investments co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).
Works on the Los Guevaras road, with a length of 1,354 m and an average width of five meters, will allow to connect farms, livestock, isolated houses and various rural roads.
The total amount is 38,988.43 euros.
The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, said that "more than 3 kilometers of rural roads will be reconditioned to improve the mobility of vehicles in this area, as well as access to housing and agricultural and livestock farms, connected to these roads".
The second road in which works are being carried out is Higueral Alto, with a length of 1,647 meters and an average width of five meters.
It will connect farms, cattle ranches, isolated houses and various rural roads with the regional road RM-D16.
The budget for this road is 19,762.27 euros.
Both roads, in which are carried out works of reinforcement and improvement of the firm, improvement of the drainage and road safety, are part of the first call that took out the Ministry in April 2016, which ended in July of the same year, with The selection of 50 roads, from 23 municipalities of the Region, with an estimated expenditure commitment of 4,500,000 euros by the Ministry.
"The agriculture and livestock sector is the main economic engine of Puerto Lumbreras. Therefore, it is important to place special emphasis on the settlement of these roads that give access to agricultural and livestock farms, fundamental pillars of our local economy", has Explained the Mayor.
Finally, Mª Ángeles Tunisia thanked that "the regional government takes into account the needs of the lumbrerenses and allow the rural areas to be equipped with the appropriate infrastructures so that there is adequate access to the farms."
