The schools of Puerto Lumbreras begin the new school year 2017/2018 (11/09/2017)

The children and primary students of the public schools of Puerto Lumbreras today started the new school year 2017/2018.

The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, the general director of Educational Planning and Human Resources, Juana Mulero, and the Councilor for Education, Sonia López, visited the schoolchildren on their first day of school.

Specifically, more than 1,700 students are now incorporated into the classrooms of the four public schools that the municipality has, a slight increase of 1% over the previous year.

The public school that has a greater number of students is Juan Antonio López Alcaraz with 638, and is followed by the Sagrado Corazón school with 578. It should be noted that a total of 164 children aged 3 years have started for the first time the school in Puerto Lumbreras.

As the main novelties of this course, the implementation of the regional educational project "Digital Centers" in CEIP Purísima Concepción stands out.

The program promotes the incorporation of digital educational resources and resources in the development of teaching activity in at least 25 percent of the subjects taught at the center.

The Mayor explained that "this project opens a new path from the perspective of education, innovation and quality. This program will increase the digital competence of students, while enhancing the use of digital educational resources, reinforcing the autonomy of schools ".

Another novelty is that Puerto Lumbreras has joined the project "Connected Schools", which provides all schools in the locality with ultra-fast broadband in order to make the communication network as effective as possible.

With this measure will facilitate a greater speed of connection, which is estimated to benefit the more than 2,500 students that are distributed in the four schools and the Institute Rambla de Nogalte.

As for bilingual education, three of the four public schools in Puerto Lumbreras have implemented the model for the 2017/2018 academic year.

In this sense, Mª Ángeles Tunisia has emphasized that "we are committed to providing a quality education and our goal is for all schools in the municipality to adhere to the bilingualism program."

The mayor of the town has stressed that "schoolchildren will find today their schools improved after the conditioning actions put in place during the summer."

Tunisia has stated that "this year we have increased the investment in works to continue maintaining and improving the facilities of public centers. These actions, with an amount over 40,000 euros, benefit the entire educational community, both students and teachers ".

It is worth mentioning that one of the most important works carried out this summer has been the refurbishment of the courtyard of the school Juan Antonio López Alcaraz, in charge of the Autonomous Community.

Specifically, the works have consisted mainly of the execution of a storm collector, as well as the execution of a concrete paving that will replace the existing gravel, favoring the correct evacuation of rainwater.
