The Murciano Institute of Social Action, with co-financing from the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, subsidizes a social intervention project for the Roma community in Puerto Lumbreras.
The project aims, at a general level, to continue contributing to the improvement of the social situation of the Roma community, through a series of concrete actions that promote their social integration, taking into account at all times, the participation of the Roma community in the programming and development of the actions.
The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, explained that "it is a comprehensive project, covering areas of education, employment, health, and training, whose purpose is to promote promotion, prevention of exclusion, development, participation and social integration, favoring the improvement of the qualification and access to employment of the Roma population of the municipality ".
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has a grant of 20,000 euros to develop a project aimed at people, mostly gypsies, residents in the historic center of the town that for various reasons are in a situation of social exclusion.
Specifically, 298 people from 73 families will benefit from this initiative, with 109 men and 189 women.
This project frames activities by the Municipal Social Services and a series of resources ranging from a playroom for gypsy children between 3 and 14 years old;
training courses to increase employment opportunities, which will be related to masonry, painting, plumbing, food handling, warehouse assistant;
as well as workshops on image and personal care.
The purpose of the project is the development of actions aimed primarily at addressing the needs of the most disadvantaged children, youth and adults and their families.
