After touring the main streets of the municipality, participants arrived at the pedestrian walkway "Muelles del Puerto" where a minute of silence was kept and a manifesto was read in memory of the deadly victims of gender violence.
The Councilor for Equal Opportunities, Sonia Lopez, stressed that "from the City Council we have made an appeal to all citizens of Puerto Lumbreras to join this march that aims to raise awareness of a problem as serious as that of the gender violence ".
To give greater visibility to the fight against this social scourge, the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has installed protest posters on the facades of some public buildings and sports facilities.
In addition, as a novelty, the City has painted messages against sexist violence in the entrances of public schools in the municipality as a measure aimed at raising awareness and engaging all citizens in the fight for equality between men and women.
It should be noted that from the Department of Equality of Opportunities has been developed a program with more than a dozen activities, which aims to raise awareness and awareness among the entire population, and especially the youngest, on the importance of preventing violence gender.
The program ends today with a personal defense workshop for women, given by the professional boxer and champion of Spain of Kick Boxing, Mª Carmen Romero, in collaboration with the Local Police of the municipality.
