The mayor of the municipality and the director of the Regional Wastewater Treatment and Sanitation Entity (Esamur) have met to supervise the start of the works.
This week the works of protection of the general collector of Puerto Lumbreras have begun, as it passes through the ravine of Nogalte.
The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, and the director of the Regional Entity for Sanitation and Wastewater Treatment (Esamur), Jesús Artero, visited the area where the activities are carried out.
Specifically, it is intended to protect the pipeline by extending a breakwater, weighing between 1,000 and 1,500 kg, received with concrete in the bed of the channel covering the pipeline and the construction of an anti-scour screen upstream of the pipeline.
Given the variable depth of driving, it has been proposed to act only in the most exposed areas, which correspond to the two banks of the ravine, extending the protection 50 meters in length to the center of it and five meters wide centered on the axis of the pipe.
On the other hand, to avoid scouring the pipe under the breakwater, a reinforced concrete screen 2 meters deep will be built, from the key of the tube with 50 cm width along the two areas it protects.
The mayor of the town explained that "in October 2012 emergency actions were carried out for the temporary replacement of the general sewer of the Puerto Lumbreras WWTP as it passes through the Nogalte ravine." The object of this project is now to protect the facility provisionally made thus giving it the character of definitive ".
Among the infrastructures damaged by the flood on September 28, 2012, the General Sanitation Collector of Puerto Lumbreras was found, so that around 230 m of collector disappeared, with no discharge reaching the WWTP of Puerto Lumbreras and producing a spill in said rambla.
Faced with this situation, Esamur, owner of the collector, proceeded to the urgent replacement of said collector by replacing the service in a few days by installing a conduit through the bed of the ravine, sufficiently buried to protect it against the passage of vehicles through the area.
It should be noted that the execution of this work has a period of one month and a budget of 74,448.49 euros (VAT included).
After the visit to the area of ​​the works, the director of Esamur met with the mayor to give him the study of alternatives (location, cost, technology) of the new sewage treatment plant of Goñar.
The station will be designed to respond to the purification of wastewater from a population of more than 200 inhabitants and will have the latest technology in processes of environmentally friendly treatment.
