The Community is carrying out road safety improvement works on the road of the Puerto Lumbreras station (04/01/2018)

The Director General of Roads, José Antonio Fernández Lladó, accompanied by the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, María Ángeles Tunisia, visited today the works to improve road safety completed on the RM-D26 highway, which connects the station of Puerto Lumbreras with the highway RM-620 (Pulpí-Autovía RM-11).

Fernández Lladó explained that in the aforementioned road "there was a stretch of road, from the kilometer point 0.32 to 1.23, in which on both sides there is a ditch of large dimensions that during the episodes of heavy rain clogged with water , to the point that it was difficult to identify the shoulder and sides of the road, which caused drivers lack of visibility and insecurity, since there was a risk of rushing into the gutter. "

"To avoid situations of danger, and due to the dimensions of this ditch, it had to be protected by installing a security barrier and the corresponding abatements in the existing accesses," the general director remarked.

The action consisted in the installation of 716 linear meters of double-wave galvanized safety barrier and 12 linear meters of special metallic protection system for motorists at the accesses to a roundabout, with an investment of 35,952 euros.

The RM-D26 road connects the Puerto Lumbreras station with the RM-620 (Pulpí-RM-11 motorway), and has an average traffic intensity of 2,540 vehicles per day, of which 219 are heavy vehicles.
