Young people from France, Slovakia, Italy and Denmark visit Puerto Lumbreras to learn about their culture (16/04/2018)

During their stay in the municipality, students and teachers will make visits to the most outstanding tourist resources such as the Castle of Nogalte or the Cave Houses.

A group of students from France, Slovakia, Italy and Denmark, along with students from the IES Rambla de Nogalte of Puerto Lumbreras, participate in the international project "Music shape Europe" to investigate traditional music as a way of approaching European culture.

The first phase of the project includes the visit of the students of the four remaining countries to Lumbrerense.

During their stay in the municipality, students and teachers will visit the most outstanding tourist resources such as the Nogalte Castle, the themed Cave Houses, the Cabezo de la Jara Natural Park or the Astronomical Observatory.

In the same way, young people will attend a folkloric show in the surroundings of Medina Nogalte to learn the typical music of the area.

In addition, on Friday, April 20, students will offer the first folk music concert singing in the five languages ​​of the project.

The Councilor for Education, Sonia Lopez, explained that "through this project facilitates international exchange between young people, allowing adolescents to acquire new skills, key skills and experiences." With this initiative promotes the participation of adolescents in the democratic life in Europe, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue and social inclusion ".

The project "Music shape Europe" is part of the Erasmus + KA2 program, which started in 2017 and will continue until 2019. The aim of the project is to develop European culture and awareness in students through the traditional music of their countries .

Each educational institution selects the group of students that will participate in the project, which must have musical qualities and appropriate social skills to achieve the final objective: to record an album with five songs from each country that will be known by all the students.

Sonia López stressed that "it is an ambitious project, since all the participants must sing in five languages." The first meeting of this project takes place this week in our town and counts on the presence of about thirty students, who are hosted by families of the students of the IES Rambla de Nogalte.

In addition to these visits of international students, the project includes the mobility of teachers of the IES Rambla de Nogalte to prepare and plan the work of the students of the center that the next course will visit the other countries participating in the project.

The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, was present at the welcome ceremony and congratulated the teaching staff and the students of the project.

To conclude, he pointed out that "with this program the support for participants in mobility activities is reinforced by improving their foreign language skills before and during their stay abroad".
