The Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras submitted to the President the proposed rehabilitation of the Casa del Cura (13/07/2010)

The new infrastructure will be established as a new cultural and tourist area surrounded by a garden of over 7,000 square meters.

The Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, presented this morning the President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, the new project to rehabilitate the Casa del Cura Puerto Lumbreras and its conversion into a new space tourism and culture in municipality.

According to Sanchez, "the ambitious project to restore the House of Casa del Cura intend to provide expansion area of the county town with a new tourist and cultural space that includes the construction of a fleet of over 7,000 square meters in environment. "

The Priest House is now a manor house built in the nineteenth century that has more than 1,300 square meters and is part of regional architectural heritage.

The building, located in an area of recent expansion of the village to the hamlet of El Esparragal, has a structure typical rural farmhouse, with the goal of remodeling into a new space tourism that promotes the culture and customs of the municipality through museum spaces.

In addition, the project incorporates Casa del Cura an extension to the Casa del Labrador, which is attached, and which also aims to provide the new infrastructure with spaces for tourist use.

On the other hand, provides for the establishment of a public park of over 7,000 square meters incorporating existing plantations of orange and olive trees, which will complete the new public space environment.

Ana Belén López Plazas won the International Ideas Competition organized by the Municipality and the Ministry of Public Works and Planning for the rehabilitation of the Casa del Cura.

With the motto 'Things and cases of Puerto', the draft López Plazas was the winner of the contest which included 28 proposals from 136 entries.

Regional historical heritage

Built by Juan Arcas and inhabited for years by Alberto Marzal, the farm has a house with two floors and large balconies, and a room where they kept the former farm and people residing in charge of maintaining the land.
