The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras install biomass boilers in municipal buildings more energy expenditure (04/09/2010)

The initiative is part of Ecopuerto Strategic Plan 2008 - 2012 which includes more than 150 specific measures to promote sustainable development in Puerto Lumbreras.

The Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, visited the Castilian town of Coca Leon is a pioneer in Spain in the use of such systems that reduces energy consumption by over 30% and CO2 emissions are suppressed favoring the environment.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras install biomass boilers in public buildings more energy expenditure in order to eliminate and reduce CO2 emissions by over 30% on energy costs.

The Mayor of the town, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, has held a meeting with Coca Mayor, Juan Carlos Alvarez, and visited the facilities in the municipality which is one of the towns Spanish pioneers in the use of biomass boilers.

"Since the council intend to boost the exploitation of renewable energies to promote the environment and promote sustainable development in the town," says Sanchez, "this is the fundamental reason why we will install biomass boilers in public buildings more energy expenditure for reduce energy consumption and eliminate CO2 emissions. "

Thus, biomass includes all renewable fuel that animal or plant.

Among the many benefits it provides, emphasizes the elimination of CO2 emissions and also saves costs and energy independence by generating energy expenditure compared to other countries.

Moreover, as explained by the Mayor, "biomass is constituted as a source of income that promotes local employment to encourage forest cleaning to reuse waste into energy."

With this new initiative, the municipality continues to drive lumbrerense Ecopuerto Strategic Plan 2008 - 2012 which contains more than 150 specific measures to protect the environment.

Aware of the importance of the problem of climate change, the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras was developed in 2008, this action plan which have already developed more than 80 performances during the first two years.

Visit to Coca, a town pioneer in use of biomass

During his visit to the town of Coca (Segovia), Pedro Antonio Sánchez has visited some of the boilers installed in public buildings in the town to understand its functioning.

Since 2000 Coca has installed seven biomass boilers of various powers that serve the energy needs of different types of buildings such as City Hall, a center for adult education, school, or school district.

The installation of the first biomass boiler at City Hall was a 82% reduction in energy expenditure.

Currently, Coca municipal coffers have experienced savings of 86.26%, and reduced emissions of 28.83%.

In this sense, the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, concluded by explaining that "Puerto Lumbreras will become another municipality to launch pioneering biomass boilers in public buildings. With this initiative we continue to develop our active policy the environment and sustainable development to make Puerto Lumbreras in green municipality ".
