The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras requests fiestas in honor of the Virgen del Rosario declared to Regional Interest (25/09/2010)

The Mayor presented a motion at the next Full Council to transfer the request to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The Patron Saint of the town have their origin in 1723, and constitute a sample of the historical, cultural and popular location.

The Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, presented at the next Full Council a motion that the council requests that the festivity in honor of the Virgen del Rosario are declared as' Events of Regional Interest. "

This request will be forwarded to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism with the aim of recognizing the historical, cultural and popular of the festival which is celebrated in honor of the Virgen del Rosario for three centuries.

"The parties in Honor of Our Lady of the Rosary are a clear example of our historical and cultural heritage, and as a popular event are almost unique to our region," said the Mayor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.

According to historical records collected by the municipality, the festivity of Puerto Lumbreras have their origin in 1723, but it was in 1952 when the town hosts the first official proclamation.

Since then, this celebration in honor of the Virgen del Rosario takes place during the month of October, and year after year has established itself as a celebration of cultural reference and tourism at regional level.

Thus, this celebration combines lumbrerense religious ceremonies, cultural and sporting highlights a high participation by moving to town from various points inside and outside the Region.

This popular event is substantially increased in the traditional parade of floats, a popular event that has established itself as an act typical of other municipalities in the region.

In this regard, Sanchez explained that "the acts that form the traditional celebration are a symbol of identity for our town, and are a significant tourist attraction, both for its uniqueness in the overall regional supply of parties, and their impact and ability to attract visitors. "

Thus, the session lumbrerense asked the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to make this celebration declared a 'Festival of Regional Interest', "with the aim of increasing tourist attraction, and closer to citizens of other communities."
