More than 300 schools in Puerto Lumbreras participate in the European project '+ Respect' against ethnic discrimination (13/01/2011)

The municipality promotes activities of study and analysis of the Roma through the Social Services have also been set up educational workshops and recreational activities in local schools.

The project aims to increase participation and the rights of the Roma ethnic minority, primarily through awareness and information campaigns, in addition to European schools.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Social Policy, participates in the European project '+ Respect' with which you work against discrimination of Roma and other ethnic minorities in Europe.

Specifically, the session is promoting various information and awareness activities in local schools 'Assumption Jordan', 'Sacred Heart' and 'Juan Antonio López Alcaraz' involving over 300 students lumbrerenses.

Councillor for Employment and Social Policy, M ª Angeles Tunisia, explained that "the social integration of ethnic minorities requires educational processes and actions which involve as many groups of society, especially the smaller ones."

To this end, the session is developing educational programs in local schools including intercultural games, making crafts, murals and a video recording which prepares a school campaign against ethnic discrimination.

Thus, Puerto Lumbreras Spanish is a partner of the project with other municipalities in European countries like Italy, Romania and Belgium.

Thus, the actions are developed in coordination with the 10 members of the project to develop a final paper to be displayed in a phone booth to be installed in schools in Puerto Lumbreras.

Finally, from the Department of Social Policy, also being developed within the Municipal Program for Prevention and control of absenteeism and monitoring socio-educational activities and workshops aimed at strengthening the Roma community school, and taught by a social educator, a psychologist, a social worker and a social integrator.
