The Minister of Universities, Companies and Research, Salvador Marín, presented the award last night 'Sustainable City' the Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, which recognizes "the work of the town in the area of renewable energies energy efficiency. "
Puerto Lumbreras has launched more than a hundred steps to promote sustainable development through Ecopuerto Strategic Plan 2008-2012, and various actions related to energy efficiency after becoming the first Spanish town to join the Covenant of Mayors at European level.
The Port City last night received the award Lumbreras 'Sustainable City' in the seventh edition of Energy Awards Murcia.
The Minister of Universities, Companies and Research, Salvador Marin, presented the award to the Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, in recognition of the actions that take place in the town in the area of energy efficiency and renewable energy.
According to the Mayor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, "This award recognizes our commitment to sustainable development and respect for the environment through policies that extend to all possible areas. The energy, transport, industry incentives and a signature commitment to renewable energy are some of our immediate priorities, "says Sanchez.
Thus, named 'Sustainable City' recognizes the actions launched by Puerto Lumbreras in recent years.
Specifically, the energy and industry sector, Puerto Lumbreras launched various measures such as implementation of systems that use clean and renewable energy in municipal facilities, rationalization of the use of machinery in municipal facilities and the optimization energy consumption in public lighting.
In this connection, Sanchez said, "Puerto Lumbreras is the first municipality in the region that has tendered the roofs of public buildings to install solar photovoltaic panels."
Furthermore, in the field of renewable energies Sanchez explained that "Puerto Lumbreras will be one of the first areas in the Region will launch a biogas plant."
On the other hand, in the transport sector, the City Council and the Community Sustainable Mobility Plans developed in the city center, giving priority to public transport systems and non-motorized, among which the Director of the Bicycle Plan, BiciPuerto.
Also, efficient water management has become another priority for the town through measures such as renovation, expansion and modernization of water supply network, as well as the introduction of savings schemes in the home and business.
In addition, during the last year the town has received several awards including the Award for Sustainable Development in rural areas, which gave the Group Tragsa nationwide.
Now, with the award "Sustainable City", "our city will continue to work in this direction to make Puerto Lumbreras in green town," says Sanchez.
Among the jury members of Murcia Region Energy Awards which were awarded as Puerto Lumbreras 'Sustainable City', highlighted the participation of the Director for Innovation ISEM Fashion Business School and associate professor at Instituto de Empresa, Álvaro González -Alorda.
Also participating CAM Regional President, Angel Martinez, the head of Iberdrola's distribution in the Region of Murcia, César Calomarde; Aremur president, Juan Toledo, and the Director General of Industry, Energy and Mines, José Francisco Puche.
