The Community and the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras collaborate with farmers to adapt their farms to environmental regulation (31/01/2011)

The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, and the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sanchez, were handed 60-day licenses to open a ruminant livestock farms that have adapted to new environmental adjustment of the municipality, within the set up Ecopuerto Strategic Plan 2008-2012.

The City Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, has developed plans to provide advice and training programs to encourage farmers lumbrerenses adapting their operations to environmental requirements.

The Minister stressed that this adjustment to the municipal law "reconciles the farmers with sanitary applications, urban and social" and said that Puerto Lumbreras "has been a pioneer in carrying out this initiative."
