The archaeological site of Tercia Picacho Puerto Lumbreras has been declared a Cultural (08/03/2011)

The site corresponds to a prehistoric fortified settlement of the Bronze Age (Argaric) dated in the first half of the second millennium BC.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras continues to work with the Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage to protect archaeological sites in the municipality.

Over the past months have been listed about a dozen sites in the locality.

The archaeological site of Picacho de Tercia in Puerto Lumbreras has been declared of Cultural Interest by the General Directorate of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets of the Region of Murcia.

Specifically, the site corresponds to a prehistoric fortified settlement of the Bronze Age (Argaric), dated in the first half of the second millennium BC.

Thus, the archaeological site of Tercia Picacho is located on the eastern edge of the Sierra de la Estancia, on the upper slopes and summit of a hill protected by strong natural defenses consisting of steep slopes.

The location of the village is justified by the immediacy of water resources and the control of a communication channel that flowed through the channel of the Rambla de Vilerda.

The Councillor for Tourism and Environment, Ginés David Piñero, explained that the purpose of cataloging the Picacho deposit of Tercia as a Site of Cultural Interest is to protect and preserve the archaeological heritage of the town, as this type of help sites convey the history of the earliest settlements in our area. "

Thus, at the site are two sectors.

The first located at the top and north slope of the hill, it is the inhabited part of the hill where different stretches of wall protected the front of the site.

After the documentation of this site, the general direction of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage, in collaboration with the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, continues working on other cases to protect various prehistoric archaeological sites in the locality.

Among the newly protected sites include White Rock, Ray Cave, or the water tank Poveda belonging to Roman times.
